Angel of Growing Grey

My latest doll and the first in a series of angels is birthed! She is called the Angel of Growing Grey.

My healing intention for creating this doll was to create  a witness and guide for this period of transition to showing my true hair colour (or lack of).

Of course it’s not just about hair! It’s about acknowledging my place in the life cycle – that place of midlife; relinquishing the dreams and aspirations of my younger self, that didn’t come to pass and embracing what is yet to unfold.  I wanted to strip away the illusion that everything was shiny and bright, because it isn’t.

Her nakedness mirrors that feeling of vulnerability. No longer hiding behind the persona, like a new born the world awaits who she will become.

THE PROCESS

I used a pattern from Pamela Hastings book Icons and Angels, and scraps of fabric from my collection, including some lovely Japanese silk and fabrics from my mum.

I embellished the doll with some quilting stitches and simple running stitches and then created a Mexican God’s Eye from various grey wool and white string.

She holds this as an amulet to guide her through the external journey of slowly revealing her grey hair to the world, and simultaneously the inner path of finding her light and accompanying wisdom.

Her nakedness mirrors that feeling of vulnerability. No longer hiding behind the persona, like a new born the world awaits who she will become.
